HONOR FLIGHT
In October of 2011, Kristen and I were flying back to Phoenix from New York City and had a layover in Washington, D.C. When we changed planes, we were afforded the privilege of being on an Honor Flight for the long leg of the trip.

What is Honor Flight? Well, here’s their mission straight off of their website (www.honorflight.org):

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. Now, with over one thousand World War II veterans dying each day, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

On the flight, we got to witness a mail call for the veterans, which is something they all seemed to really enjoy.

After the flight landed in PHX, the plane was saluted with a water arch, where two fire trucks shot water cannons from either side of the plane, allowing the plane to taxi through the resulting archway.

When we arrived at the gate, all of the "regular" passengers exited the plane first. After we were in the terminal, Southwest Airlines made an announcement over the loud speakers to all people in the terminal to walk down to our gate and welcome the Honor Flight members. As each one walked off the plane, everyone in the entire terminal stopped and clapped to welcome them home. It was extremely touching.

So we decided that in an effort to honor all veterans and their families, current and past, we would like to use part of the funds raised for PFP to help allow these heroes to see their memorial.

In 2012, we will make our first donations to the Honor Flight program. Because of our off-season ties to the Ozarks, as well as our in-season ties to the Phoenix area, we have selected ozarkshonorflight.com and honorflightaz.org as our donor recipients for this year.
