Tickets for Families
This was the initial program for PFP. Brad Ziegler conceived of the program during his second MLB season in 2009. Brad began by hosting events prior to games and purchasing tickets to bring servicemen and servicewomen to A’s games in Oakland. This was simply an effort to say “thank you” for their sacrifice and provide troops and their families an opportunity enjoy some recreation together.
The PFP ticket program is designed to offer our military families the opportunity to get out of the house and temporarily take their mind off their loved ones half-a-world away who are risking their lives every day for our rights and freedoms (while minimizing the expenses of attending a Major League Baseball game).
From 2010-2015, with help from the A’s Community Fund, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, and support from other MLB athletes, Brad and PFP have provided nearly 40,000 MLB game tickets to servicemen, servicewomen and their families!
In 2015 and 2016 several other MLB players and organizations engaged the program and PFP has now hosted in cities from New York to San Diego. New York Met LHP Steve Matz will provide tickets to members of the military, the NYPD and the NYFD. Angel LHP Andrew Heaney has also embraced the program and will also be expanding the program to Anaheim in 2016. We feel humbled and blessed to see the program continue to gain momentum and proud that such efforts will enable us to say thank you to more people than ever in 2016!
